    Daily Houserule tweets: March 2022

From February 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023, I posted an entry a day to the @gamesdiner Twitter account, using the hashtags #TRPG, #GURPS, and #DailyHouserule. The concept: Make tweets out of a bunch of minor GURPS houserule items, GM/player advice tidbits, and other tips & tricks, to have a bit of fun engaging with other gamers and get the #GURPS tag out there more. (See the initial announcement here.) The year is up! I’m now posting those tweets to this site, a month per page. Links to all 12 months are below. Do forgive the overly abbreviated and janky writing. These were tweets, so the text is full of…

A year of daily GURPS tweets: #DailyHouserule (GURPS/DFRPG)

I’ve been assembling a collection of bite-sized house rules, tips, and tricks for GURPS and DFRPG, with the intent of tweeting one a day for a year. I’ve got enough entries now for nearly three-quarters of the year; the rest are falling in line smoothly. When to launch these daily tidbits? January 1 would make all kinds of sense… I realized one day in late January. So I launched on February 1, the Chinese Lunar New Year. That works too. I’ve got over a week of house rules and tips posted now, and it’s going fine, so here’s the blog announcement. Interested? Just follow @gamesdiner on Twitter, or follow my…

    New spreadsheet for GLAIVE Mini

GLAIVE Mini is a “weapon builder system” that yields damage and ST stats for a hand weapon, whether existing favorites like 3-lb broadswords and 8-lb greataxes, your own variations on these, or even all-new creations. It’s single-page simple, asking merely that you take starting damage and ST based on weight, then adjust those stats up and down for mods like Two-handed and Long. The basics were reverse-engineered from existing weapon tables, so the tool does a fair job of recreating a lot of existing weapon stats right on the nose. But certainly not all weapons! And so users wonder: If you’re building a weapon like a bastard sword, will the…

Tables! File downloads! (And other updates)

In minor site update news: First, there’s the first new post in a long time: GURPS/DFRPG resource: New disadvantages. This is the latest entry in the site’s growing lineup of “places to dump new traits and new weapons and stuff”. (A bunch of entrants in this erstwhile series can be found here.) Okay, but what’s with the mention of “tables” and “file downloads”? Well, GURPS resource: ST Monster Table gets a new v2 Table that goes even further (ST 100!) and now offers cost of ST, both classic cost and the alternate cost from Rules Bit (GURPS): A better cost for ST and HP. If you’re a fan of that latter cost…

    GURPS/DFRPG resource: New disadvantages

I’ve got pages for new talents, new techniques, new technique-based advantages, and new perks, all waiting to tie up your PC’s precious character points (or cash, if you’ve got an eye for new weapons). Now it’s time to help you claw back some of those character points with new disadvantages. My collection of new disadvantages is small, but I’ll of course add to it if I create more. An all-important note: Naturally, the below are purely fan-blog house rules items offered for your amusement. Please don’t mistake them for “official” stuff! Code of Honor variants For some general discussion on these codes and their use in the game, see this…

    “Hear Ye” archive

Past blurbs from the “Hear Ye” sidebar section. Announcements too trivial for a full blog post. Minor side thoughts of the sort that used to go to Twitter before its Fall (call it prelapsarian Twitter). Any such town crier missives, now collected here. 2026-05-31: Two new GURPS-focused additions to the “Ally Roster” blog roll in the sidebar: Another GURPS Blog and Michael Thayne’s RPG Blog. Check them out and add them to your RSS feed reader (or watch Ally Roster for updates). 2026-05-06: Am I the only one who finds the Intuition advantage a bit powerful for the cost? It’s useful in so many situations, often overshadowing other abilities. Take…

A bunch of new content for GURPS, etc.

I’ve added a lot of new content over the past few months. “Yeah, I can see that. I mean, I’m here, on the site…” Right. And thank you. But I’m posting this for the benefit of the RSS feed. A few words about the feed, for the interested only, follow the header below. For now, here’s an update in the form of a TL; DR version, as of late September 2023: The normal, expected RSS feed for this site, http://www.gamesdiner.com/feed/ , should work fine now. That’s all. The rest of this page might be of modest interest to blog managers only. The gripe! Out of old habit, I use the…

STROLL: ST rolls that work in GURPS/DFRPG

Yay, new content! And look, it’s… Oh. More nonsense about ST. Wait, don’t go. This is a useful tool that I’ve meant to post for a long time. It patches one of the few problems with ST that GURPS 4e left standing: getting rolls against ST (and Contests of ST, and even ST-based skills) working correctly. The below fixes these rolls for any and all jotuns, teeny faerie folk, super-beings, or normal humans involved. Seriously, don’t run! This upgrade calls for no cost revisions and no new mechanisms, comparisons, or calculations, inside or outside of play. (In fact, it eliminates the multiplication and division that Basic Set describes for extreme…

Caged: A year of GURPS and DFRPG tweets

From February 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023, I made daily entries to the @gamesdiner Twitter account, using the hashtags #TRPG, #GURPS, and #DailyHouserule. The concept: Make tweets out of a bunch of minor GURPS houserule items, GM/player advice tidbits, and other tips & tricks, to have fun engaging with other gamers and get the #GURPS tag out there more. (See the initial announcement here.) How many tweets in all? 365 entries, one or several posts per entry… I don’t know, but probably over a thousand tweets. Released into the wild over the course of a year, they’ve now been rounded up and caged at the Games Diner, a page for each month. Birds of a feather they are…
