Sports throwing skills in COSH

Discus throw

Peering inside the old GULLIVER for GURPS 3e, I was struck by a tidbit that should have made it into COSH, the system for modifying and building combat skills in 3e. The old GULLIVER nicely details some throwing skills for use in sports, not combat, generally handing them a hefty distance bonus in exchange for encumbrance penalties, a Ready requirement, and a big TH penalty. (Yes, a TH penalty. Track-and-field javelin, hammer, discus, and so on never require the thrower to actually hit something. What the heck? Let's get some man-sized targets out there, and go Spartan on the next Olympiad!)

If this sort of thing piques your rarified interests, break out the COSH page along with a copy of GULLIVER LITE for 3e (see links above), and read along: Read more...

COSH for 3e and other site updates

Crier

A little spring cleaning sure feels good!

Huh? You mean spring was, like... back in spring? Oh. Well, spring cleaning in late fall still counts as cleaning, so I don't care about getting the season wrong. (Probably shouldn't have sown my fields yesterday, though.)

Anyway, I brought over the COSH combat skill design system from the old static site to a proper new page. Yes, it's for GURPS 3e, but it's still a hoot to modify and create combat skills, and create a martial art that's just so you. And there's a freebie in the new COSH page: handy PDF downloads for the key tables! Discover (or rediscover) COSH today.

At the same time, I performed some cleanup of the GLAIVE weapon design system for 3e, the GULLIVER page, and the GURPS Diner list of links.

There's more to do: I started this site without full understanding of the underlying CMS's capabilities, and my content organization is a bit haphazard (as are some details like download file names and links). That'll all get cleaned up, though priority remains on in-progress new projects.

THE TAKEOUT MENU: Flyaway Missives from T Bone's Games Diner
#001, November 17 2006

Good day, intrepid subscribers. Allow me target your mailbox with this blast (ROF 1, Acc 0, Affliction: Sleepiness) from the GURPS Diner. Thank you for having signed up.

May this not be mailed out in error while I write the draft and test the newsletter system. I apologize for the HTML-formatted mail; the plain text version is formatting all wrong. I hope to get it right next time.

This issue: A few news items, a little musing on updating old material, and then some requests for your help.

Recycled content: defaults and other tips for COSH

I won't be able to post things next week, so here's some recycled material for approaching visitors. While searching through old email, I found the following post I'd made to the Gurpsnet mailing list.

The response below to an inquiry may be of interest to fans of COSH, a fun tool for modifying and creating combat skills. Read more...

Content contributions toward update

Toward GURPS Diner updates!

For those kind souls who have offered to help with tasks for an updated GULLIVER or other Diner content, especially compiling notes of what would need to be updated for 4e:

Let me start a list here of what others have already done, or what otherwise already exists. That'll help prevent duplication of effort.

GULLIVER:

Big list of Book 3 (creature traits) updates required: Done by Dataweaver.

COSH:

Many thoughts contributed by Infornic.

Also, see this great treatment by Seasong:

I have to do something with that! COSH is one of my favorite Diner bits; it cries for 4e-flavored attention.

OTHER:

Now I need to comb my notes to see what other work has been contributed by others; I know there are bits and pieces I still have to gather into one place.

My thanks to all those who have kindly made such concrete efforts. I know the best way to thank you is to now do something with your contributions!
