Home-brew games: links and more

I used to have links to some huge lists of home-brew RPGs online, but a lot of those pages have gone belly-up. Here's one list still alive:

http://www.hoboes.com/html/RPG/netgames.html

The following are gone:

* http://www.darkshire.org/~jhkim/rpg/freerpgs/fulllist.html

* All sites linked from the below, except for the above hoboes.com link:
http://www.rpg.net/directory/diy.html

Any readers know of other link pages?

And more interestingly, who out there has experience reading or playing the many home-brews out there? I've peeked at a few; in the future, I'll take notes when I read one, and report here. Questions to keep in mind when perusing or playing:

  • Does the game have a design goal? What's it trying to offer that doesn't already exist in other games?
  • Are there any unique systems, mechanics, or settings of note in the game?
  • Is it well-written, or is it penned in... Internet Common, shall we say?
  • Does the game welcome community input and help?
  • If it does, does it make you want to provide input and help?
  • Does the text make you want to play?
  • If you play, do you want to play again?

It'd be great to hear your reviews – long or short – of home-brews. (Even if you're the creator: what have you made, and why?)
