A couple of recommendations: GURPS players, check out what's at The GURPS Diner. The house special is GULLIVER, an easy rules expansion for creating and playing odd-sized creatures. To see the lunch, dinner, wine, and kids' menus all at once, peek at the site map. Take your time; the busboy will be along shortly to clear you a place.

Two notes:
1) A recent tech upgrade borked all links to ancient (static HTML) GURPS Diner material. Should be working again now.
2) The site's new graphic theme offers a lot more potential for content placement and other customizations than the previous one. But, yes, it needs some clean-up first. It looks very... busy. Will improve things.

I've put in more space here and there, and took your advice about darker sidebars – I like it. (Though there are some hard-to-understand bits in the CSS, such as why I can't set the height of the sidebars to extend the color all the way to the bottom of their container...)
Justify text? That sounds good too – will try that next. Thanks, I really appreciate suggestions about details!

The reason you can't make the color of the side bars extend all the way to the bottom of the page is because CSS and HTML are flow-based, so things shrink to contain their content and things want to drift up and left (repeat in a recursive manner when things are nested). There are some work-arounds, but they're all somewhat hackey and somewhat technical.
I think the solution you have is a pretty decent one. If you were really worried about it, you might have your tech people google faux columns or, uh... It's been a while since I looked this stuff up. Anyway, looks great! Of course, the content of the web page is as good as ever. Keep up the good work!

Tue, 2008-04-15 11:58 — tboneThanks, Ben, of the additional advice and comments. I did get those sidebars extended to the bottom, by darkening a higher-level div that contains them, and then re-lightening the center column.
Interestingly, this theme has built-in ability to adjust many factors, like some colors, and sidebar width, via a controls form (no need to edit CSS for those tasks). That's what's great about it for newbies, especially those without ability or permissions to edit CSS – but at the same time, that sort of high-level feature always subtracts something as well. In this case, there's something hidden in the code that refuses to change the padding around the columns' text; I'd like more padding there, but when I make what should be simple, appropriate manual tweaks to the CSS, the whole page goes wacky.
Oh well, good enough for now! Until I tire of it.
PS: "...your tech people..." Where can I get some of those? : )

Thu, 2008-04-10 06:18 — Ben (not verified)If I might make a suggestion: Especially on the side bars, if you justify the text, it will help make a clear visual distinction between the three columns. It's a simple change that can have a pretty big impact. And it's fairly safe to apply to all paragraph tags. Another thing you might consider is a slightly darker background for the side bars. Or something. I know you solicited advice and all. ;)
