Welcome, new visitors!

Is this your first visit? Consider subscribing to this site's RSS feed to get updates, or to the newsletter for the occasional mailbox surprise.

(Were you, by chance, searching for "diner games"?)

This site is full of original material for players of table-top role-playing games. Input and collaboration is welcomed! Please read more about the site here. Or just dive in to whatever looks interesting.

A couple of recommendations: GURPS players, check out what's at The GURPS Diner. The house special is GULLIVER, an easy rules expansion for creating and playing odd-sized creatures. To see the lunch, dinner, wine, and kids' menus all at once, peek at the site map. Take your time; the busboy will be along shortly to clear you a place.

About the Forums

The Games Diner forums will mainly support collaboration on projects, as well as discuss Games Diner content that doesn't fit into other Internet forums. If you'd like to bring some other game topic to the forums, I'll probably welcome it heartily.

I'm using a simple forums module for Drupal; I don't know whether it's sufficient for real work, or whether something fancier is needed.

It appears to work like this:

STRUCTURE

The big categories on the Forum page – Games Diner, GURPS, etc. – are containers. These are just groupings of related forums, and don't mean much.

Inside those are actual forums, like "Using the forums". A single forum can contain any number of ongoing discussions under the forum's general theme.

Click to enter a forum, and you'll see the topics inside that forum. Each topic is an ongoing discussion, commonly called a thread.

Click a topic to see the posts inside. Each topic can have as many posts as people want to contribute.

POSTING TO A FORUM TOPIC

The first post inside a topic is the one that sets up the topic and its... well, topic. To reply to that first post, use "add a comment", just as if you were commenting on a blog post, an article, or other content.

Additional posters can choose to comment on the first post in the same way, or can choose to reply to other comments. Click on a comment's "reply" link to address that comment specifically.

POLICIES

With apologies to all, I've had to make creation of forum topics available only to registered users of the GURPS Diner. (The spammers were having too much fun.) You don't need to be a registered user to simply read and post to forums, though you will have to prove human status via a simple "captcha" shibboleth. (Thank you again, spammers.)

Please have mercy on ol' T Bone and this site's visitors. Flagrant flamers, trolls, obscenity-spewers, and other abusers will have their posts deleted. They may necessitate user registrations, too, with all the user approval and banning and what not that that entails. Let's try to avoid all that, and have fun!

I think that "Comment viewing options" thing is broken. A least it does't let me change anything.

Preview not working well

Submitted by Juballa (not verified) on Mon, 2006-11-20 22:21.

The Preview Comment functionality produces, for me at least, an unusable mess of text. It would appear my name and email address get laid over some of the text I've written, and line wrapping doesn't appear to happen -- I can't actually see everything.

Might be related to window size -- even this text area that I'm typing in appears to be fixed-width, with not all of the typable area visible unless I maximize the browser.

[testing preview]

Nope -- doesn't matter whether I maximize the browser window for the preview -- still can't see everything that I typed.

Re Preview not working well

I've found the same issue, and was about to ask openly whether it's only me or others too. Thanks for the (unfortunate) confirmation.

Based on my muckings with other sites, I think the problem is not in the Drupal system itself, but in the graphic "theme" I'm using. It's an open source theme, not one I developed myself, and though I've poked around the CSS plenty, I haven't found the code that governs preview widths.

Simplest solution: Change to a theme that I know works. Okay, that moves to the top of the to-do list. Thanks for taking time to point out the problem.

Please solve the math problem above and type in the result. e.g. for 1+1, type 2. Sorry, I have to cast Detect Spammer...
